Mastery-Based Grading Philosophy

In our Physical Education program, we use a mastery-based grading system that emphasizes learning over traditional grading. Our approach is designed to support student growth and development by focusing on mastery of skills rather than simply assigning grades. This method promotes a growth mindset and allows students to demonstrate their learning through feedback, practice, and repeated opportunities to improve.

Grading Scale:

  • 90%-100% = A
  • 80%-89% = B
  • 70%-79% = C
  • 60%-69% = D
  • <59% = F

Work Habits & Cooperation:

  • E = Excellent
  • S = Satisfactory
  • U = Unsatisfactory

Physical Activity Logs

As part of the course, students are required to maintain and submit physical activity logs for periods when they are not actively enrolled in a physical education class. These logs help students track their progress toward a physically active lifestyle and develop a personalized fitness plan.
